So, I just upgraded to El Capitan several days ago on my mid-2012 macbook pro. So far, this is mostly been a mistake as my computer is mostly unusable for any of my IDEs and even the Terminal is sluggish. But, the most annoying thing is that I can’t restart my computer. When I try, it just hangs as if it’s about to restart with no icons on the desktop and displays the background wallpaper. When I force a restart it attempts to do an update (I’m guessing the 10.2 update) when the apple logo pops up. But the update is never applied and attempts to do the same again next time I reboot.
Booting into the disk utility I attempted to repair everything one at a time. When I attempted to repair my Ubuntu partition I got an error saying that something might be wrong that would cause a problem when booting. So, I figured I’d just erase it (Ubuntu isn’t a particularly good OS for a laptop, anyway). I erased it and then attempted to remove the partition at which point I get told that the operation can’t be performed because the disk is too small.
I should note: I do not have a Time Machine Backup. Not sure why, as I don’t recall ever turning it off. I just discovered that during this whole process.
Any ideas?
