El Capitan/Bootcamp not working after partition resize

$

So i’ve been digging around and this seems to be a personalized problem for each situation.

I have been running bootcamp with Win 7 ultimate 64 with no problems except i ran out of space.  Once i resized the OSX partition to give me more space to add to the Win partition i lost the ability to boot into windows.

How can i fix this?

Bootcamp Windows 7 Partition lost after upgrade to El Capitan

So I upgraded to El capitan and as many others who also had a bootcamp partitioned to Windows 7, it seems to be lost. I no longer see it at all and it seems to be that I’ve completely lost my partition.

I’ve got a MacBook Air (2012). From looking at other posts of similar nature, posting the outputs to these terminal commands may seem to help better understand what’s going on:

The boot disk can not be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

Hello, I bought a few days before the mac . I need to have windows to handle a scanner , so I tried Boot Camp . Unfortunately , I do not know how, but after several failed attempts , I found that Boot Camp does not work now and reports “The boot disk can not be partitioned or restored to a single partition . ” I tried deleting the volumes added from windows , but it is likely that it has remained one for error ( EFI ). This is the current situation:

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER

   0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *1.0 TB     disk0

   2:          Apple_CoreStorage Macintosh HD            23.6 GB    disk1s2

   3:                 Apple_Boot Boot OS X               134.2 MB   disk1s3

/dev/disk2 (internal, virtual):

   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER

   0:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD           +982.0 GB   disk2

                                 Logical Volume on disk1s2, disk0s2

                                 79068DB8-F40B-4F92-A98D-20948AA81B80

I suppose the problem is the volume /dev/disk0s4. So it is?Can I delete it with a control terminal?

Problem Loading My BootCamp Partition After Partitioning the Drive again

Hello,

I’m having a problem that I can’t seem to find being talked about anywhere on here. Everything was working fine. My BootCamp partition was running out of space. I wanted to increase the partition size, because I actually have plenty of space on the Mac side.

I ended up searching and following the procedure he

https://discussions.apple.com/message/24377993#24377993

“1) backup all your files (optional but strongly reccomended).

2) Using OSX Disk Utility resize MacintoshHD partition leaving unallocated space as much as you need to add to bootcamp partition.

3) Set Bootcamp as Boot Disk and restart the mac.

4) in Bootcamp with Windows running launch Mini Tool Partition and select the bootcamp partition.

5) Choose “expand” option in order to expand the partition using all the unallocated space.

6) The program prompt to you to restart the mac for apply the task, cause is not possible while the partition is mounted and windows running.

7) Restart the mac and then automatically Mini Tool Partition will do the job in a “graphic msdos like” form.”

I got to step 3, and this is when I started having an issue. I resized my Mac partition to have about 100 less GB. Did step number 3, but I got that black screen that said something along the lines of “No bootable device found — insert disk and press any key”. You know, the message that pops up when the software that allows the system to boot can’t be found.

I had to restart and press the option key. It’s weird. My Mac partition shows up just fine, but the BootCamp partition isn’t there. I loaded the Mac side back up, and, I can actually still see my Bootcamp partition in the finder window. I can go in, see all the files, and everything. I can still select Windows as my Target Boot Disk. It just won’t load.

How can I fix this?

Using an External SSD for Windows 10 Partition in Boot Camp

Hello.

Alright, so I dun goofed the first time I created my windows partition on multiple levels, but I’ve got a much more solid grasp of things now. I had to delete everything and restore from a time machine backup, so I’ve got a fresh slate now.

However, I’m going about things differently this time in that I want to use an external SSD for use with my Windows 10 partition. I’ve read a lot about this, but everything I’ve come across is conflicting and not exactly my situation, so I thought I’d clear up my steps on here before I undergo this thing.

This is my build:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15 inch, Mid-2015)

Version: OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 Beta (15C48a)

Processer: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Storage: 500GB

These are the accessories I’m planning to use for this:

External Enclosure

2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD

and a 32GB USB 3.0 Thumb Drive (if necessary)

Now I’m not completely sure I can even install my windows partition onto an external SSD because I’ve read so many conflicting things, but if not, it’s okay because I can still use the 250GB SSD as storage for gaming while using the windows partition.

That being said I’d prefer to install the windows partition to the external SSD to avoid compromising the storage space on my MacBook Pro.

If anyone could explain the step by step process for this to me or provide a link to an existing solution for my situation I’d be super grateful. Thank you for reading this!

Hello everybody. I’m trying to install win 7 with bootcamp on iMac 27 late 2013, i7 3.5 GHz, fusion drive 3TB, El Capitan 10.11.1

I followed every step of installation with bootcamp, but in the windows installation screen, after formatting the BOOTCAMP partition I get this error msg: “impossible create a new partition or locate an existing one”.

Could you help me please?

Disk utility repair made Bootcamp partition innacessable.

My MBP running 10.9.5 was having issues starting up. I booted into recovery and used Disk Utility to repair my disk. Can boot into OS X just fine now, but when I hold alt/ option to get boot options for Bootcamp, Windows partition no longer is available.

When I boot into OS X I can see my partition and access the files, I’m guessing Disk Utility removed the boot partition or some such thing.

Any help would be appreciated!

I installed Windows 10 Home using boot camp today on my Mac with Os X Lion. I set the partition Windows 200GB. So now in my HDD Disk are have 2 volume (Mac OS X And BootCamp Windows System)But now i want a another volume (3rd volume) for my Windows from Windows Drive volume.

I tried already from windows disk management using shrink volume,  but i cant. After shrink then when i try to make a new volume from unallocated drive, but the pop up menu says “The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s) (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?”

I choice No, because i don’t want to loss my Os x Lion. but i cant make any new Volume.

Guys please help me, What is the easiest way to make a another new volume from BootCamp Windows volume?

Kawsar

Thanks and waiting.

Cannot create a third partition for BOOTCAMP

Hi guys, I’ve been trying to install a windows 7 with BOOTCAMP for the last few days but nothing worked so far, here’s a list of methods i tried:

– BOOTCAMP ->

Cannot create a third partition for BOOTCAMP

– Disk Utility: tried create a new partition from Data partition with all kind of partition formats, and the results were all “illegal name” and “it should be 59356 instead of 59352″

Cannot create a third partition for BOOTCAMP

– Also did a First Aid check on Data partition and got this error

Cannot create a third partition for BOOTCAMP

– Also tried with bootable OSX usb

– As well as “hoped” to be able to crack a new partition with bootable windows 7

I had 3 partitions before when on older OS X, then I merge/delete (don’t really remember) the BOOTCAMP to Data partition. Now my macbook is running on El Capitan.

Other info: Macbook pro 13″ mid 2012. 500GB HDD. El Capitan OS & 1 Parallel windows

Would love to hear any suggestion, thanks a lot!

Internet doesn’t work on Bootcamp Windows Partition (Windows 8, Macbro Pro)

I have a MacPro with Windows 8 installed. It was installed using the Bootcamp application in the utilities folder. I installed it in June with half of the computer space being partitioned (500gb each). I used it successfully for a few months without any problems. Then in September there were some internet problems. There was a lot of lag and the pages or applications would try loading for a minute until it came up with the error: Could not connect to the internet. This was strange since I was clearly connected to the wifi, but when I tried to use the internet the same error always came up. Troubleshooting didn’t find anything.

I decided to not use the windows partition for a few days and after a month or so I went onto the Windows partition and everything worked just fine. I could use the internet again for several weeks until about mid October when the same problem happened, from one day to the other. I decided to try the same tactic, wait a month or so but nothing happened. Since then I’ve tried troubleshooting, restarting the computer, rebooting the internet router. Forgetting the network I use, using a different network but nothing changes. I’m curious if there are any other solutions or if the only option at this point is to delete the windows partition and re-instal it.

Any suggestions and help is appreciated! Thanks

Please format the USB drive as single FAT partition.???

So I finally got the courage to bootcamp my Macbook Pro.  Here’s my stats:

Macbook Pro Late 2011, (does have an optical drive)

Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)

When I start the Bootcamp, I get stuck at ‘please format the USB drive as single FAT partition.’

When I check the USB, it is empy and the info says it already IS in single FAT.

Any suggestions on what to do next?

Broken ubuntu bootcamp partition

$

So, I just upgraded to El Capitan several days ago on my mid-2012 macbook pro. So far, this is mostly been a mistake as my computer is mostly unusable for any of my IDEs and even the Terminal is sluggish. But, the most annoying thing is that I can’t restart my computer. When I try, it just hangs as if it’s about to restart with no icons on the desktop and displays the background wallpaper. When I force a restart it attempts to do an update (I’m guessing the 10.2 update) when the apple logo pops up. But the update is never applied and attempts to do the same again next time I reboot.

Booting into the disk utility I attempted to repair everything one at a time. When I attempted to repair my Ubuntu partition I got an error saying that something might be wrong that would cause a problem when booting. So, I figured I’d just erase it (Ubuntu isn’t a particularly good OS for a laptop, anyway). I erased it and then attempted to remove the partition at which point I get told that the operation can’t be performed because the disk is too small.

I should note: I do not have a Time Machine Backup. Not sure why, as I don’t recall ever turning it off. I just discovered that during this whole process.

Any ideas?

Bootcamp Partition missing and doesn’t show up in Termainal

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

Running 10.10.5

I started the process of installing windows yesterday but ran into a few issues (Missing DVD drivers warning which was actually a using a Flash drive thats too big/wrong file type) Anyway, my various attempts resulted in the 50GB of space I partitioned using BCA to go missing. I have backed up using time machine and am ready to do a total restore at this point but I am worried because the 50GB is not even showing up in Termainal when I search for it. All the other methods I have read on here over the last few hours have been people whose partition does show up but just needs to be repaired using fdisk or whatever.

Im not to interested in messing around too much I just want to get the thing started restoring so I can start from scratch with the windows install. I need to know if after doing a full wipe of my drive im going to be still missing that 50GB

Here is a list of my Terminal outputs:

I just bought a Samsung 840 PRO SSD. When I powered my Mac Pro (early 2008) it said “The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer”. When I try to partition it I get the message “Partition failed....

Migrating Windows 7 bootcamp partition from MacBook Pro 11,3 to 11,5

I had hardware failure in my late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro (11,3 model), and had to purchase a currently available model with similar specs (mid-2015, 11,5 model) as a replacement. Now I am trying to transfer the content of 1 TB drive from old to new machine. I have OS X, recovery partition for OS X, and bootcamp partition with Windows 7 on the drive. I thought the hardware was sufficiently similar that the OSes would just run after I clone the drive, but nope. Nothing boots on the new machine. Holding Option key at startup lists OS X boot options, does not list the Windows boot option (unlike on the old machine), and none boots when selected.

The only important partition from the above is Windows 7 bootcamp. It’s deeply tweaked and recreating it from a fresh install would take me one week of work. I don’t use OS X, it just remained on the drive as a useless remainder from bootcamp installation. However, OS X seems to be involved at the beginning of Windows boot process (wish I understood more how that stuff works).

What can I possibly do to make this Windows 7 partition run on the new hardware?

migration assistant created partition on 2 mac with 2 users, can I restore to factory settings and start over?

After using migration assistant to transfer my info from old macbook pro ( 10.6.8 )to new one (10.10.5), the majority of my files and settings did not transfer over.  According to someone who knows more about computers that I do, it created a partition with 2 separate users on the new macbook  I want to go back to factory settings  on the new Macbook and try a different method to transfer everything over.  How who I do that?

remove OSX and only keep bootcamp partition

Hi all,

after a year I noticed I never use OSX and I only use Windows on the bootcamp partition.

1. Is it safe to remove the OSX partition so I have more place for the bootcamp partition?

2. If I would ever need OSX again, could I reinstall it?

thanks

Gert
