lost bootcamp after new partition (trying to increase disk space for window)

I have 10.11.2 Version OS X El Capitan. Here is the details about my system.

lost bootcamp after new partition (trying to increase disk space for window)

So I tried to increase the partition space for bootcamp using disk utility. I created new partition. But now I cannot bootcamp while I restart the computer and hold option key. I have tried this in the terminal:

sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

p

setpid 4

07

flag 4

p

write or w (tried both)

y

But it does not seem to recover my windows bootcamp. I also tried to restore the mac to earlier backup date thru external hard drive but that does not seem to help either.

Here is the screen shot of the output. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.lost bootcamp after new partition (trying to increase disk space for window)

bootcamp partition not showing

I’m running a late 2013 IMac with 1Tb SSD recently upgraded the OS to El Capitan

Used Bootcamp to partition my HD to allow Windows 10 installation and followed instructions to the letter (or so I thought)

At the “Where do you want to install Windows to” I selected the Bootcamp partition and formatted that partition (I saw it as Untitled after that)

Then had a problem installing Windows 10 as I got an error “The selected disc is of the GPT Partition Style”, so went away while I researched this.

Upon returning to the iMac, I can only see the storage that I left in the Mac partition and can’t see the Bootcamp / untitled Partition so the iMac is only showing the storage I left it with.

Heres a screen shot of the Disk Util list and the Disk Utility,

If anyone can tell me how to remove the partition that is hidden / missing and how to get around the GPT Partition error, I’d be really grateful.

Windows 10 bootcamp ate all partition space

I Installed Bootcamp in order to extend the number of games I could purchase on steam, because as we all know, very few major developers bother with mac compatibility. I had no problems installing Windows 10 on my bootcamp partition, and gave the partition more then enough space, at the recommended ~250 GB of data. However, I have been unable to download any program of any sort of the Windows partition because it takes all 278 GB’s of data, and I can’t download anything, nor can I delete any of these files.

Reinstalling OS X from Window 10 Partition

Hello,

Recently I have used Bootcamp to install Windows 10 on my 2013 Macbook Pro 13-inch.

I can no longer boot into OS X, and I would like to delete everything from the hard drive and just reinstall OS X. Is there anyway to do this from the Windows Partition?

Thanks

Hello!

I recently purchased a “Seagate Backup Plus Drive” (2TB) and am trying to convert it to be compatible with my 2011 MAC OS X El Capitan (Version 10.11.2). However, I am unable to partition the hard drive because the button is grayed out as you can see below. I have done this to several hard drives in the past and never had this issue before. ANYONE who can help my, I would GREATLY appreciate it!!! Thank you in advance!!!

EFI system partition repair

I’m having a problem with the internal SSD on one of my Macs running 10.10.  It was working fine when I was browsing the web one day and then suddenly froze with the spinning beachball; I couldn’t force quit (it was truly hung) so I forced a restart and now the computer won’t boot at all.  I’ve tried the following with no success:

  1. Booting into the recovery partition and repairing the disk with Disk Utility.
  2. Booting on an external USB 10.10 installer and repairing the disk with Disk Utility.
  3. Booting in target disk mode and repairing the disk with Disk Utility.
  4. Booting in target disk mode and trying everything I can think of with diskutil in Terminal.

At this point I’ve given up on Disk Utility and have been looking for the right combination of diskutil, fsck, and gpt to get things working.  I have some data that will be lost so reformatting is not an option.

Here is some of the relevant info:

Here is my question – I let someone install OS El Capitan by partitioning a small portion of my hard drive. Now that partition is the source of my apps + downloads, its getting full, I don’t know how to utilize the other partition? Please help? BootCamp won’t boot normally after a partition resize

Hi!

I read a lot about this issue since yesterday, but i haven’t found a solution yet, so i’m asking for help! Here’s the story.

I have a windows 7 partition on my iMac for gaming purpose. Last week, i resized my partitions without any problem using Disk Utility and a little software on Windows. Yesterday, i did the exact same thing because i needed a bit more space in my windows partition. After resizing in Disk Utility, i tried to switch over to my windows partition but it wouldn’t appear on the startup screen.

With the help of another topic, i managed to make it bootable again, but now i’m getting «Missing operating system» error.

I already tried to use my Windows 7 installation disc to repair windows, but it’s not able to finish the process.

I could delete the windows partition and reinstall windows on a fresh start, but it mean going over the process of downloading + installing all my games… so i’m hoping someone could help me bring my windows back to life!

I suspect you are gonna ask me to provide the input from this:

1. diskutil list

2. sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

3. sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

… so here they are!

Thank you!

Hey all,

A few days back I created a Boot Camp partition for Windows 8. I used it for a few hours, booted back into OS X, and then booted back to Windows, before putting my computer off for the night. The next morning, when I  tried to boot into Windows, it said “Missing operating system”. I booted back into OS X, and Disk Utility said the disk was empty.

I brushed it off as a strange bug and redid my boot camp. I used it for about a day, booting in and out, and then it happened again.

Anyone have any idea what’s going on or how to fix it?

I was trying to free up some space from my windows 10 partition to go back to my Mac OS X 10.10.2 partition. You used to be able to do this in either boot amp or the disk utility just by dragging the sliders, I’m sure…i couldn’t get it to work in Mac I looked online and read somewhere that Windows 10 could do it natively.

In Windows 10 disk management o resized the bootcamp partition to free up some space. This then created an empty partition, so I headed back to OS X, but it didn’t seem to see it in disk utility, aback to Windows 10, I thought if I formatted it as fat32 os X would see it and be able to reclaim the space.

That’s when the sh*t hit the fan:

-cant boot into os X

-cant boot into Windows 10

when booting the screen is black for a long time then the machine tries to book Windows but says there’s no bootable media (or something similar).

I tries command + R to load online help/utilities but disk utility their recognises all the partitions but cannot seem to do anything with them, like delete or repair etc. It says it can’t make changes to the boot map (apologies not exact mssage(s) have subsequntly been drinking to numb the misery of it. Am away from home, so don’t have any bootable media Or any backups with me.

basically I’ve broken the guild map I think but because everything’s greyed out in the utilises, I can’t erase any partitions (if that’s what I need to do).

would someone please give me some advice? – will it be possible to save the data on the os X partition? (Not so bothers about Windows 10)???

thanks in advance

david

I’m stuck trying to delete Bootcamp partition! Any suggestions much appreciated :)

I’m trying to delete my Bootcamp partition so I can recover the space for OSX 10.8..2  I read the forums and thought I had it right but….  I deleted everything on the Bootcamp drive, and now Bootcamp Assistant won’t let me remove the partition.  I get as far as downloading the Windows Support Software, but the Install or Remove Windows option is greyed out.  I get an error message saying

The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.”

The partition was created by Bootcamp and still shows as Bootcamp in Finder & Disk Utility.  It’s a 1TB drive on an iMac27 i7 running OSX 10.8.2 and Bootcamp Assistant 5.0.0  I’ve tried a partial restore from Time Machine back up but no luck.  Am I going to have to re-format the whole drive and restore?  (That takes mne back to those oh so many times I had to do that in the bad old Windows days )  Thanks in advance if you can save me from this!

While attempting to resize my bootcamp partition (and then, deleting said partition) my previously working Windows partition will no longer show up on the startup disk selection screen. I have read through a few of the forums of similar problems but none of them are quite the same and with my knowledge I’m unable to decipher enough of it to connect the dots. I’m running El Capitan 10.11.2 iMac

Lost bootcamp partition

I’m fairly certain more information will be required but I’m not sure exactly what commands to enter.

EDIT: The Windows partition DOES show up in the Startup Disk selection in System Preferences. What I meant above is that it does not show up while holding alt on restart.

Can’t access Bootcamp Partition

Hi all,

I have recently updated my Macbook pro retina 2012 to El Capitan, and I can no longer access my windows 7 bootcamp partition. At first, I was able to access the partition though the finder, and I was able to switch into windows although there was a message stating that there was a disk read error. Currently, the partition is listed as untitled in the disk utility application, but it does not appear under my hard rive in the finder menu or in the drop down menu of disk utility. Also, I cannot find the partition my I hold down the options key during boot up anymore. If anyone knows of any solutions so I can at least back up the data on my windows partition, or best case be able to fix my bootcamp- it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
