2013 MacPro Windows 10 Installation Partition Problem (BootCamp)

$

Greetings,

I’ve been having some challenges installing a Windows 10 via Boot Camp. As far as my system goes, please see the enclosed screenshot of my MacPro system. My hard drive is SSD.

The roadblock happens after the “Format”, when I click on the Next button, I got this error:

We couldn’t create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information see the Setup log file” (please see the attached image).

I’ve been googling since yesterday and trying to apply some solutions out there to my problems to no avail (part of it because I’m not a computer savvy and don’t know if their problems are the same as mine), but here are a few things I tried:

01. Unplugging the thunderbolt, including the external enclosure that houses 4 external drive and my computer screen.

02. Resetting the SMC

03. Resetting the NVRAM

Any help and directions on where I should go to solve this mystery is greatly appreciated!

Unable to install windows after partition reset

I have literally been sat at my macbook for the last 10 hours trying to get my bootcamp to work, however after tonnes of research and trying things I have found online I am still at a loss. I originally had installed windows 7 a couple of weeks ago for the second time (after yosemite deleted my previous one when upgrading) and everything was going great. I then took the decision to uninstall my windows as I really wanted to expand my partition size, so backed up all my files and used bootcamp to remove windows and re partition my hard drive to one single volume. However after doing so and then following the exact same steps as before (running bootcamp and partitioning to a bigger space) once my laptop restarts it comes up with the message “No bootable device — Insert boot disk and press any key” instead of boot loading windows automatically (like it did before). I have repeated this several times in the hopes that one time it would work however I cant help but feel that there is an issue with my hard drive and when I try to verify my hard drive (the top one not the ‘Macintosh HD’ one) it sometimes – (I say sometimes because it doesn’t say this error when trying to verify) says this:

Verifying partition map for “APPLE HDD HTS547***A9E384 Media”

Checking prerequisites

Checking the partition list

Checking for an EFI system partition

Checking the EFI system partition’s size

Checking the EFI system partition’s file system

Checking the EFI system partition’s folder content

Problems were found with the partition map which might prevent booting

Error: A disk with a mount point is required.

and yet when I performed the same task again 2 minutes later it say:

Verifying partition map for “APPLE HDD HTS547***A9E384 Media”

Checking prerequisites

Checking the partition list

Checking for an EFI system partition

Checking the EFI system partition’s size

Checking volume information.

The volume Recovery HD appears to be OK.

File system check exit code is 0.

(and just for more info when I verify macintosh hd everything is fine):

Verifying file system.

Performing live verification.

Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.

Checking extents overflow file.

I am really not good when it comes to this stuff therefore this information may be totally irrelevant, sorry! I originally had to check my volumes and revert one when yosemite originally deleted it to be able to repartition my hard drive and install windows again. I just really don’t know what to do so any help would be appreciated. I have no knowledge in this subject what so ever but I get the feeling either my hard drive is corrupted somewhere (even though yosemite still runs perfectly and all my files seem to be intact) or for some reason my boot loaders are not working..

I can provide more information if necessary, but quite frankly I have no clue what I’m doing.

Thank you for taking the time to read this if you have!

My bootcamp partition is not showing up anymore after my update to El Capitan. Cannot find it in “Startup Disk” in “Systems Preference” nor in “Disk Utility”.

With the following command in Terminal:

diskutil list

diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

I received the following:

Cannot find a hard drive partition

Hello.

Today I felt like installing Windows 10 on my mac due to my interest in gaming. I bought a Windows license and downloaded the ISO file. When I started boot camp i followed the instructions and it started to download the drivers (something from Apple servers at least). Then, while partitioning the SSD the computer crashed. I booted up again and when I tried to enter boot camp again I could not use my full SSD any longer. Only 341GB remained. I cannot find any other partition in Disk Utility so I have no idea where 159GB of storage went.

I hope there is someone that can help me.

Thanks in advance

How to solve AMD-Action:authenticate:SP keeping Users on separate partition

Hi,

I found some discussion threads on problem- “AMD-Action:authenticate:SP” but I want to keep my /Users dir on a separate partition as it makes me feel safer for my date and time & effort I have put in. As I am new to this OS environment, I want to see this dir on separate partition. Can I resolve this issue, given my preference?

How to resize a bootcamp Windows partition

$

Hi,

for two years I’m running a 2013 27″ iMac with a fusion drive. I’ve got El Capitan installed and I’ve made a 70Gb bootcamp partition for Windows 7. For some reason I cannot access my USB ports in Windows so I would like to install the Windows drivers I downloaded with the Bootcamp Assistant. I’ve stored all the files on a external USB stick but I cannot access this drive in Windows. I tried to copy all the files to Windows Explorer bit there wasn’t enough space on that partition to copy the files.

I previous OS X versions it was easy to resize the partion but it seems that Apple have made it more difficult to easy resize a Windows partition.

I cannot make a back up because I cannot access my WD external hard drive. If that was possible, I would erase the partition and use the back-up to re-install the files.

I’m thinking to resize to Windows partition from 70Gb to 200Gb. But how….

Can someone help me out what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards from The Netherlands, Europe.

Wilfred

Partition of Drive

How to share a partition between El Capitan and Windows 7

$

Hi all,

Looking for some help.

I’m fairly new to Mac OS and looking to setup a MacBook with both El Capitan and Windows 7 with or without boot camp. I have a 1TB SSD hard drive where I want to split into 3 partitions with the following;

200GB Mac OS partition

200GB Windows 7 OS partition

600GB shared partition accessible between the 2 OS’s.

Every time I setup the shared FAT32 partition it would either mess-up the boot camp Win7 install or boot camp Win7 will not install unless the FAT32 partition is removed. I have even installed Win7 without boot camp and the shared partition is safe in Mac OS but not accessible in Windows.

Hope this all makes sense. Help will be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Recover modified FAT 32 partition with Disk Utility

$

Recently I modified the size of my main mac hd (hfs+). I sized it down to make room for a FAT32 partition and moved some work files onto the new 2TB FAT32 partition This worked fine.

Later I used Disk Utility again to resize the FAT32 partition and expected it to size down from 2TB to 1.5TB without skipping a beat. Now no files show up on the FAT32 partition.

The “format” was quick so I’m sure OSX just wiped the existing FAT table. I haven’t touched the partition ever since this happened because I know the old files are still there but just aren’t visible to OS X. How do I get to see these files again?

PS: I’m severely disappointed that the new version of Disk Utility (El Capitan) does not give you any warnings nor does it ask for a confirmation once you select the modified partition size; It just starts making changes to the disk.

Help! My MacBook goes to sleep when Disk Utility (on the Recovery partition) is running!

Right now my MacBook is booted into the Lion Recovery partition. I’m running Disk Utility and attempting to shrink the main partition so I can clone it to a smaller HD. (Yes, there will still be enough space on the smaller drive.) But I have a problem…my Mac keeps going to sleep, resulting in an endless cycle of wake-do-sleep-undo. The progress bar is seemingly stuck halfway through. I don’t want to touch anything, for fear of rendering the disk unbootable. (Of course, it’s possible that it’s already ruined, but…) But I also have other stuff to do; I don’t want to sit here all day just to keep tapping the keyboard, moving the mouse, etc., to keep my Mac awake.

I erased my Bootcamp Partition. Now what?

Hello all,

Whilst messing around with erasing my old Time Machine drive I have managed to delete my Bootcamp partition from my SSD.

I have come to terms with the fact that the data is gone. I didn’t keep anything mission critical on windows (so that it would be backed-up).

The problem I have is that my install of Windows (10 Pro (originally installed 8.1 Pro off a disk)) is still there. I can hold option when I boot up my machine and Windows is an option. When I select it I get a message saying that a file is missing (windows32).

  1. Is there a way I can make an NTFS partition and direct windows to it?
  2. Will that solve the problem? (I’m thinking that may force it to re-install Windows on that partition.(unlikely))
  3. How do I go about removing this dead install?
  4. Should I be installing from the 8.1 disk again, or should I make a new Windows 10 install disk with a USB?

If you are able to offer any assistance that would be great. I consider myself quite tech savvy so I’m willing to try more advanced solutions.

Cheers,

Angus

Repairing Bootcamp after new partition

Hello,

I have the same problem as many here before, but I’m confused about which commands to write into the terminal.

Problem: I created a second partition to install OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 besides my main 10.9.5 OS X Mavericks partition on my Macbook Pro Retina Mid 2012. This caused the Windows 8.1 Bootcamp to disappear from the startup selection.

Here is a screenshot of the output for the commands:

diskutil list

diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

Repairing Bootcamp after new partition

I understand that I have to

1. Boot in Local recovery > csrutil disable > reboot normally

2. Correct the MBR somehow like this:

sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

p

setpid 4

07

flag 4

p

write

y

Are the values for setpid and flag correct for my scenario? I’d like to understand what the code does.

Thanks in advance!
